Essay #2
Story of Stuff
Introduction:
The per capita consumption of
industrial products is increasing, and that a significant effect on our
environment and our society, the biggest impact is negative. Industrial
materials and products are renewed and growing quickly so that consumers are
forced to continuously change the goods and even before it becomes unusable.Film 'The Story of Stuff' (2007) is displayed on the Internet and YouTube shows the real activities and interactions that adversely affect industry on the environment and on humans directly.
In order to produce a commodity, there is a linear path starting in the extraction of material from the environment, till the end to get rid of the product. In this linear interaction the environment are killed slowly and that happen through deforestation and blasting metal mine, in addition to the chemical toxic substances emitted from the factory during manufacture.
Extraction:
Extraction means Taking materials
from the environment for use in industry, these materials are found under the
ground or in the mines or the sea or the mountains and also above the earth's
surface, example: extraction of wood
from the forest. These types of extractions of course affect to the environment
and upset the balance of the earth. (Extraction - Wikipedia, the free
encyclopedia 2013).
It is noted in the last decade
with the emergence of a wealth of industry, increased land crises, in addition
to gas ratios in constant change, which affected the climate in the ground and
water level, which led to the emergence of new environments and destroy others.
Production:
Physical production or output is
to create a tangible or intangible benefit of where you do not have a presence
before, or add the benefit for something that has a certain amount of them. Product
material factors or physical factors of production are land, labor,
organization and capital (Production - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 2013).
Distribution:
Product distribution is one of
the four components of the marketing mix.Distribution in the field of business,
is "the process of making a product or service available for use or
consumption by a consumer or business user." This is done by using direct
means of distribution, or using indirect means for distribution through
intermediaries (Distribution (business) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
2013).
There are three types of
distribution:
Intensive distribution: It means that the product depends on the storage products in most retail outlets. This is a common strategy in the distribution of basic supplies, snacks, magazines, and soft drinks. Selective distribution: It means that the product depends on a small number of brokers to act in its products. It is generally observed that the strategy used in more specialized goods that are disposed of through specialist dealers, for example, craft tools with brand, or large electrical appliances.
Exclusive distribution: It means that the product does not choose only a very small number of brokers. Exclusive distribution distinguishes often through exclusive deals that given to the reseller's sole right to dispose of the products produced by the product to the exclusion of all other sellers. This strategy is usual in luxury goods stores such as Gucci (Distribution (business) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 2013).

Consumption:
Consumption is defined as
«expenditures on goods and services used to meet the needs and desires during a
certain period» which are normally a calendar year, and consumption includes
the state of consumer goods such as clothing, food and household items as well
as raw materials as building materials, cotton, fuel and minerals. (Consumption
- Online Business Dictionary 2013).
Disposal:
"Almost all the resources
flowing through the materials economy eventually finish up as waste to be
disposed someplace, typically dumped or burned or recovered for recycling”(Story
of Stuff, 2007). As the capacity and toxicity of waste grows, recycling can’t
solve the complete issue. Waste needs to be planned out of the system from the
beginning through cleaner creation, better product design, composting,
recycling and spending less matter overall.
Related to the UAE:
Within the UAE there are circles
commercial fake pass through many of the products, such as oil production of
raw materials in the ground in the beginning and then after that the per capita
consumption of this oil and use this product in cars and factories in the
United Arab Emirates, but examples of high consumption in the United Arab
Emirates is the consumption of water, UAE in tops the list of most countries
water-consuming, after the United States of America.
At first I will give the kind of
production in the United Arab Emirates which is oil and then I will address the
subject of high consumption
Consumerism in the UAE:
Mohamed Al-Khalil, director of
the communications department Authority Federal Electricity and Water, Saied "on
the need to focus on following the established consumption rational water, and
not wasted as a wealth must be preserved, noting that despite the scarcity of
water resources, the per capita consumption of water in the UAE in particular,
and the Gulf states generally, is the highest in the world, where statistics and
studies suggest that the international per capita consumption of water within
the state of 350 cubic meters per day" (UAE tops the list of the most water consuming countries -Economic
News - RAMS - 2007).
He noted that this rate is very
high compared with countries that have a comparative climate pointing out that
the United States tops the list of countries most water-consuming rate of 450
cubic meters of water per capita per day, followed by the United Arab Emirates.
He pointed out that it takes a community action for the definition of the
foundations of good consumption, because what happens depletion of resources
sets off alarm bells and portends serious problems in the near future.
Production in the United
Arab Emirates:
The Minister of Energy, Suhail
bin Mohammed Al Mazroui, explained that the UAE is seeking to increase its
production capacity of crude oil to 3.5 million barrels per day in 2017, to
contribute to the stability of global markets and ensure its obligations
long-term with consumers, at the time revealed Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC)
announced a plan to build a new refinery in Ruwais, which will cover the needs
of the domestic demand for petroleum derivatives, the most important automotive
fuel.
And detailed, said that «Emirates
is seeking to increase its production capacity to 3.5 million barrels per day
of crude oil, to contribute to the stability of global markets and ensure the
long-term obligations with consumers (Oil Production - Forums aware Emirates -
2004).
Disposal in UAE:
Seeks Masdar Institute of Science
and Technology, through a combination of research and studies, to develop
solutions that will make a real difference in the way to get rid of waste
effectively, and turn it into a source of energy, according to Professor Issam
Jnagerh, director of research interaction thermal chemical for the production
of fuels and renewable energywaste at the Institute.
And said Jnagerh "does not
pretend to solve the problem of waste management and treatment, but we have the
ability to be part of the solution, certainly. We are confident that our
advanced research that can make a real difference " (Masdar Institute
"seeks to develop methods of waste disposal and converted into
energy" – Ittihad News - 2009).

Houbara
bustrads
UAE opened a specialist center in 1995 in Morocco to maintain this type of bird. The Center assisted in
propagation around 60,000 of Houbara Bustards.
"If you consider any endangered species and talk
about the cost, projects will not see the light of day". The focus must be
on this type of project for the survival of life on earth and not paying any
attention to the financial costs
The center in August 2009 has released about 12,000
birds in every season, and now they are planning to release efforts up to
15,000.
Some of the Houbara bustrads are specially selected
for breeding due to the composition of its body and others are released because
of its ability to face the external environment.
Birds that have been released are observers by experts
to learn their behavior and the degree of harmony with the environment. Till
now the results shows that the centers are successful.
